The Southwood baseball team scored 2 runs in the bottom of the seventh before falling to South Newton 4-3 in their opening game of the Tri County sectional Thursday.
South Newton would score single runs in the second and third to lead 2-0 before the Knights cut the lead in half in the bottom of the third. With two outs Tanner Hartley would single and was followed by a Clayton Wells walk. Gabe Lloyd then singled home Hartley to make it 2-1.
The Rebels would tack on 2 runs in the fifth to grab a 4-1 lead and held that margin until the bottom of the seventh. Lucas Topliff would lead off the inning drawing a walk before a strike out and a fielders choice had Topliff standing on second. Lloyd would then hit a hard grounder to first, reaching on an error with Wells scoring to make it 4-2. Carson Blair would follow hitting a shot to left with Lloyd scoring on an error to close the gap to 4-3 before a strike out ended the game.
