The Northfield tandem of Blake Harner and Sam Burcroff combined to throw a five hitter in the Norse opening game of the Tri County sectional, defeating North Miami 2-1 Saturday.
Northfield would plate a run in the bottom of the first when Cole Rosen led off with a single and advanced to second on a balk. Braden Ripplinger would lay down a sacrifice bunt to move Rosen to third before a Chance Hartman fly ball to center scored Rosen for a 1-0 lead.
Neither team would threaten until the top of the fifth when the Warriors tied the score. Patrick Masters would lead off with a double and advance to third on a Jeff Eckrote sacrifice. Nathan Musselman would then hit a grounder to second, scoring Masters to make it 1-1. With two outs Trevor Linn would single and was followed by Zach Gunter reaching on an error before a pop up ended the threat. Northfield would try to answer in the bottom of the inning with two outs when Maccauley Miller was hit by a pitch and followed by a Rosen single to put runners on the corners before a ground out ended the inning.
North Miami would get two out singles from Garrett Bahney and Masters in the top of the sixth before a ground out ended the threat with the Norse answering with a run in the bottom. Hartman would lead off with a single. Jared Vigar would sacrifice Hartman to second with Hartman taking third on the throw to first. Matt Coe would then single home Hartman for a 2-1 lead. With two outs Trevor Burnworth was hit by a pitch before a strike out ended the inning.
North Miami would get a two out single from Gunter in the seventh before a Burcroff strike out ended the game.
With the win Northfield will play North White at 1:30 Monday. If the Norse win that game they will play in the championship at 7:00.
