The Wabash baseball team took on Lewis Cass in the Wabash sectional semi finals Saturday, giving up 5 runs in the fourth inning to fall behind 7-1 before scoring a run in the sixth and 3 in the seventh, falling short to the Kings 7-5.
The Apaches would take the lead in the top of the third. With one out Trenton Daughtry would single to center and was followed by Kallen Kelshimer reaching on an error with Daughtry taking third. Kelsheimer would then steal second with Daughtry scoring on the throw for a 1-0 lead. Cass would come back to score 2 runs in the bottom of the inning, before scoring 5 in the fourth to grab a 7-1 lead.
Wabash would get a run back in the sixth. Clayton Floor led off with a walk and was ran for by Payton Sodervick. With one out Sodervick would advance to second on a wild pitch before a Justin Beauchamp double put runners on second and third. Jared Holley would then single home Sodervick to make it 7-2. With Beauchamp standing on third with one out the Apaches couldn’t chase him home.
Things got interesting in the seventh. Kallen Kelsheimer led off with a walk and was followed by Kory Fuller doing the same. Levi Robinson would run for Fuller before Robert Irgang singled to load the bases with no outs. Floor would then draw a walk, forcing home Kelsheimer to make it 7-3. With one out Justin Beauchamp would double home pinch runner Levi Robinson and Levi Hall to make it 7-5 with one out and runners on second and third. The Cass pitcher would then strike out the next two batters to end the game 7-5.
