Manchester Tennis Wins On Opening Night

The tennis season is underway. A beautiful evening in North Manchester was the backdrop for the season opener between the Manchester Squires and Wawasee Warriors.“Opening nights are full of nerves and unpredictability,” said Head Coach Eric Screeton. Both teams showed some nerves, but the home Squires were able to capture the night with a decisive 5-0 victory in front of a large crowd. “That was a great night of tennis for us, in front of one of the biggest crowds at home I have seen for a tennis match in a few years,” added Screeton. Manchester got the ball rolling at both number one spots when #1 singles Luke
Donathan and #1 doubles Parker Wagoner and Logan Parrett wrapped up tough matches in two sets. Donathan would reverse last year’s result in impressive fashion. The final team point was decided by freshmen #3 singles Quinn Martin as he notched his first high school victory. Two more matches would go the distance, but would see similar fates as the Squires pulled out
wins at #2 singles by Spence Trick and at #2 doubles by Kyle Shepherd and Kam Lester. The Squires will kick off the conference season on Thursday, at HOME vs. Maconaquah at 5:00
