Knights Explode On Squires In Season Opener

The Southwood and Manchester football teams hadn’t played since the TRC went to the North and South divisions. The Knights had been tagged as the favorite to win the south and they showed Manchester why, putting up 47 points in the first half, defeating the Squires 59-18.

The Knights would waste no time getting on the board, driving from their own 34 before Carson Blair found Peyton Trexler from 15yds out with 9:02 on the clock for a 7-0 lead after the Parker Mays kick. On Manchester’s third play of their first series Nathan Riggle would recover a fumble that set up the Knights second score. With 5:36 left Blair and Trexler would hook up again, this time for 16yds for a 14-0 lead. Manchester would regroup on their second series and mount a drive from their own 42 that ended with Hayes Sturtsman finding Andrew McAtee from 61yds away to cut the deficit to 14-6. The Knights potent offense would answer when Blair found Matt Nose up the middle for a 45yd scoring strike as Southwood led 20-6 after one.

The second quarter would be all Southwood as the Knights put up 27 points. The first score was a 75yd scoring strike from Blair to Trexler to make it 27-6. The Southwood defense would get the second score of the quarter when Dillon Filip blocked a punt with Cameron Ball picking up the ball and racing 25yds for a touchdown. With 4:15 left in the quarter Blair would find Nose for a second time, this time from 32yds out to make it 40-6. The Squires would get on the board for the second time when Sturtsman and McAtee hooked up for a second time from 5yds out with 1:50 left before Trexler returned the ensuing kick off 78yds to pay dirt to lead 47-12 at the half.

The Knights would score twice in the third quarter. The first drive started on their own 35 before Blair hit Riggle  from 4yds out to make it 53-12. With the large lead the Knights would go to the ground game with Gabe Lloyd  running for 20yds before breaking loose for 67yds to grab a 59-12 lead.
