Lady Apaches Fall In Five Game Marathon At North Miami

The Wabash volleyball team traveled to North Miami for an afternoon game Saturday, grabbing the first two games before falling to the Warriors 25-21, 25-22, 25-27, 19-25, 14-16.

The two teams would punch and counter punch early in game one with North Miami leading 12-9 when the Apches would go to work. Two kills from Angela Levine ignited an 8-0 run to put Wabash up 18-13 before the Warriors closed the gap to 21-19. Three Alivia Short kills would launch Wabash down the stretch for a 25-21 win.

North Miami would jump out to a 9-3 lead to start game two before the Apaches took advantage of some Warrior errros and eventually tying the score at 12. Wabash would then go on a 5-0 run off two Sam Irgang kills and one from sister Brooke, but again North Miami would scratch and claw. With Wabash leading 20-19 Short would pound two kills as the Apaches went on to win game two 25-22.

Again it was North Miami leading the first half of game three and were up on the Apaches 19-14 when the tide turned. Carmen Higdon would get a kill along with two from Short and a tip from Tabatha Wagner as Wabash built a 23-21 lead. Three times the Apaches had a serve to end the day but couldn’t get over the hump as North Miami came back to win game three 25-27.

Wabash looked as though the loss was behind them as they jumped out to an 8-5 lead in game four before the Warriors scored 5 straight to grab an 11-8 lead. North Miami would build their lead to 11-17 before a kill from Brooke Irgang and a block from Levine made it 14-17. North Miami would answer with a 5-0 run that put them up 14-22 on their way to a 19-25 win to force a game five.

The Apaches would grab a 4-2 lead after a Sam Irgang kill before North Miami would score 6 of the next 7 points to take a 6-10 lead. Short and Sam Irgang would keep the Apaches close as they trailed 10-11 before an error and two North Miami kills made it 11-14. Wabash would make a run, getting kills from the Irgang sisters to tie the score before the Warriors scored the next two points to end the game 14-16.
