Lady Knights Struggle With Rochester

The Southwood volleyball team played host to a very good Rochester squad Thursday, falling to the Zebras 14-25, 17-25, 13-25.

Rochester took control early in game one, building a 3-11 lead before kills from Kalya Mays and Alissa Pershing cut the lead in half at 6-12. Southwood would get kills from Pershing and Drue Gentry to try and stay close, but the Zebras would score 7 of the last 8 points to take game one 14-25.

Although trailing by just a point the Lady Knights got off to a better start in game two. A kill from Gentry and two from Mays had the game at 8-9 before Rochester responded to build a 11-17 lead. Southwood would not fold, getting a kill from Gentry while taking advantage of a couple Zebra errors to make it 15-20 before the Rochester front line took over for the 17-25 final.

Rochester would put Southwood away early in game three, jumping out to a 5-14 lead that the Knights could never rebound from. Pershing, Gentry and Mays would all get kills but it wasn’t enough as Rochester won game three 13-25.
