Three Spartans gain HCAC weekly honors

Senior men’s cross country runner Blake Harris (Fort Wayne, Ind.), sophomore women’s cross country runner Hannah Wappes (Columbia City, Ind.) and senior women’s tennis player Erin Cordill (Zionsville, Ind.) represented Manchester University on the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week honors for the period of Sept. 11-17.

Harris and Wappes were the top finishers for Coach Geoff Lambert’s men’s and women’s teams at the 2017 Indiana Intercollegiate Championships Sept. 15. Harris took second in a time of 26:39.7, trailing only Wabash College’s Dominic Patacsil (25:39) over the 8K race, and Wappes wound up third, circling the 6K course at Purdue University in 24:12.9. She placed behind Vincennes and IU-Kokomo athletes on the individual standings as the top HCAC individual finisher.

Cordill played a significant role in Coach Eric Christiansen’s team’s 9-0 win at Mt. St. Joseph Sept. 16. She recorded a double-bagel win at number one singles and then joined number one doubles slot partner Mariam Ali (Giza, Egypt) to do the same.
