Spartan Shorts: Sophomore middle hitter Riley Patterson (Walkerton, Ind.) and senior outside hitter Ally Roskos (Elkhart, Ind.) both find themselves among the conference’s statistical top five through 10 contests. Patterson, spurred on by a .378 attack percentage at the Spartans’ home invitational Sept. 15 and 16, sits third in the category (.340). Roskos .52 service aces per set are fifth highest. Digging deeper, junior right side hitter Haley Duncan(Albion, Ind.) is ninth in kills per set (2.7), and freshman setter Lauren Gandhi (Westfield, Ind.) is ranked the same in service aces (.42 per set) … The Black and Gold’s current win skein occurred in route to claiming its second successive MU Invitational title last weekend. They rolled past Boyce College at Southern twice, Wilmington College of Ohio and Governors State University of Illinois in three sets each. Patterson and junior setter Dakota Stanichuk (Athens, Mich.) each gained all-tournament honors … Due in large part to averaging better than eight assists per set Sept. 15 and 16, Stanichuk continued to track towards becoming just the third Manchester University setter with 2,000-or-more assists. She goes into the weekend needing only 61 to reach the mark … A four-set win over FC a year ago at Stauffer-Wolfe Arena snapped a three-match skid for the Spartans in the series. The Grizzlies have captured five in a row at home over the Black and Gold.
