NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Preview, hosted by Transylvania University, and the Defiance College Invitational are next on Manchester University’s women’s and men’s golf schedules.
Tourney details: The women get a look at the host venue for the 2017 HCAC Championships playing on Keene Run Golf Course in Nicholasville, Ky., Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 23 and 24. Tee times start at 12 p.m. Saturday and 8:30 a.m. Sunday … The men’s squad joins the field at Eagle Rock Golf Club in Defiance, Ohio, Sunday, Sept. 24. Tee times begin at 10:00 a.m.
Spartan Shorts: Women – Coach Tara Boone’s team, just two weeks removed from the 2017 league championships, has produced two top five team finishes, including a title at Mt. St. Joseph. Senior Katie Smith (Wabash, Ind.) has led the charge with three individual top 10s with a high-water mark of tying for second at Hanover Sept. 9-10. A pair of freshmen have also added their names to the individual highlight reel, as Kaitlyn Cook (Monticello, Ind.) was part of the top five at the season-opening Mt. St. Joseph tourney Sept. 2-3, and Taylor Erfman (Brookville, Ind.) found herself in the top 20 at Heidelberg last weekend … The Black and Gold’s visit to Keene Run last year paid strong dividends. They wound up fourth, as Smith and fellow senior Kaitlin Powers (Indianapolis, Ind.) wound up within the individual top 15 … MU winds up its pre-conference championship schedule Saturday, Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, at Earlham College’s Invitational.
Men – It’s the second of four fall tournaments for the Spartans when they take the brief eastern trip to Defiance Sunday. A pair of freshmen got themselves noticed with strong results in the first event, as Conner Heeg (Fowlerville, Mich.) and Dillon McFaddin (Bedford, Ind.) each ended up in the top 70 among a rugged field at Franklin College’s Dick Park Invitational Sept. 9 and 10 … The Black and Gold join the women’s team at the Earlham College Invitational Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 and then close things down competitively until next spring with a southern trek to Mt. St. Joseph University’s Stateline Shootout Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 7-8.
