NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – Four straight-set singles’ wins and two of three doubles decisions lifted Manchester University to a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference win Saturday, Sept. 23.
Coach Eric Christiansen’s squad rolled at number one (senior Erin Cordill, Zionsville, Ind.), number two (senior Mariam Ali, Giza, Egypt), number five (freshman Avis McGovern, North Vernon, Ind.) and number six (senior Katy Ashpole, Leesburg, Ind.) singles, dropping only three games along the way which included Ali throwing a double bagel at number two. Freshman Karly Eichenauer (North Manchester, Ind.) added a back-and-forth three-set win at number four.
Doubles play saw more of the same at numbers one and three. Cordill and Ali and senior Katie Peden (North Manchester, Ind.) and Ashpole surrendered just three games to their Earlham College opponents.
The Black and Gold’s 8-1 win kept them unbeaten in league action at 2-0 and evened their overall record at 2-2. Christiansen’s crew takes to the road Wednesday, Sept. 27, for a match-up at Defiance College. First serve is 4 p.m.
NOTES: Ashpole continues her unbeaten roll in singles and doubles play. She is 3-0 playing at number five and six singles, while she and Peden are 4-0 at number two and three doubles … Eichenauer continues to impress in her inaugural collegiate season, moving to 3-1 in singles action.
