MU looks to continue torrid pace

A six-match win streak is on the line, as Manchester University travels to Terre Haute, Ind., Wednesday, Sept. 27.

Match details: First serve is 7 p.m. at Rose-Hulman’s Hulbert Arena … Live audio, stats and video are accessible via a link at, the Internet home of Manchester University athletics … Coach Bryndon Paulsen’s squad stands alone atop the fledgling Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference standings (8-4 overall, 1-0 HCAC). The Fightin’ Engineers sport a 10-8 record and open the league schedule Wednesday night … Three-set wins on the other’s home court have been the series norm of late. Rose-Hulman did so in North Manchester in 2014 and 2016, while the Spartans countered with a victory at Terre Haute in 2015.

Spartan Shorts: Junior right side hitter Haley Duncan (Albion, Ind.) and sophomore outside hitter Emma DeWitt (Brookston, Ind.) are on the verge of becoming the program’s first two to reach 100 kills this season. Duncan is the team leader with 97, while DeWitt is close behind (94). Other team-leading statistics through 12 matches belong to sophomore middle hitter Riley Patterson (Walkerton, Ind.) (.336 attack percentage); junior setter Dakota Stanichuk (Athens, Mich.) (189 assists); senior outside hitter Ally Roskos (Elkhart, Ind.)(19 ace serves); sophomore defensive specialist/libero Anna Marie Lawrie (Indianapolis, Ind.) (144 digs); and junior middle hitter Hannah Tevis (Royal Center, Ind.) (20 blocks) … The watch continues to be on for Stanichuk, as she approaches the rarified air of becoming only the third setter in program history to reach 2,000 assists. She stands at 1973 going into Wednesday … MU’s tandem of Patterson and Tevis in the middle continues to be difficult for opposing defenses and offenses to solve. Patterson has an incredible string of 10 successive matches in which she’s attacked at a .300-or-higher clip, while Tevis has been above .230 in seven straight outings and has registered either a solo or assisted block in five consecutive contests. Patterson’s recent pace has gotten her recognition in the conference and NCAA Division III, as she’s second in attack percentage in the league and, as of Sept. 21 action, was 50th nationally … Roskos joins her sophomore teammate in a loop statistical top five, ranking fifth in serve aces per set (.49). Lawrie (3.69 digs per set – No. 9) and freshman setter Lauren Gandhi (Westfield, Ind.) (5.06 assists per set – No. 10/.47 service aces per set – No. 6) are also in the top 10 … The Spartans return to Stauffer-Wolfe Arena Saturday, Sept. 30, beginning a span of four straight home matches with Earlham College’s 1 p.m. visit.
