Spartan Shorts: Junior defender/midfielder Isabella Zoog (Brownsburg, Ind.) recorded her team-leading second goal of Sept. 27, highlighting a fast start for Manchester University. She rifled a shot past Illinois Tech netminder Elizabeth Bremer in the 13th minute off a free kick, snapping a scoreless tie and giving the Spartans a 1-0 lead. The host Redhawks answered in the 19th minute followed by a pivotal two-minute stretch right before halftime with two scores and didn’t look back on their way to the decision … Senior defender Jaclyn Scialdone (Noblesville, Ind.) and senior midfielder Kelsey Ropp(Freeland, Mich.) seemed to give MU more chances to light up the Stuart Field scoreboard. However, their combined four shots on goal were turned away. On the defensive end, junior goalkeeper Cami Holford (Valparaiso, Ind.) tallied four saves over nearly 80 minutes, while freshman Maddie Poe (Kokomo, Ind.) kept the home side at bay over the final 10 … Along with Zoog’s two goals and four points, other team leaders for the Spartans include junior midfielder/forward Maranda Birmingham (Kouts, Ind.) (30 shots) and senior midfielder Courtney Hersick (Plymouth, Ind.) (seven shots on goal and one assist).
AU Rivalry Renewed: The Ravens’ women’s side comes to North Manchester, while the Spartans men’s team takes the short trip to Anderson Wednesday, Oct. 4. Match times are 3 p.m. at AU and 3:30 p.m. at MU.
