AU tilt starts home, away week

The 2017 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference campaign rolls along Wednesday, Oct. 4, for Manchester University.

Spartan Shorts: Junior defender/midfielder Isabella Zoog (Brownsburg, Ind.) leads the offensive numbers through nine matches, tallying two goals on two shot on goal tries in route to four points. Midfielder/forward Maranda Birmingham (Kouts, Ind.) and senior midfielder Kelsey Ropp (Freeland, Mich.)account for the other two successful strikes with one goal apiece … Other leaders for the Spartans (0-9 overall, 0-1 HCAC) are freshman defender/midfielder Alexis Beeman (O’Fallon, Mo.) and senior midfielder Courtney Hersick(Plymouth, Ind.) (one assist each) and Birmingham (33 total shots and 12 shots on goal) … Manchester University opened its conference campaign battling perennial power Hanover College in a 5-1 loss Sept. 30. The Spartans kept the contest close throughout, trailing only 2-1 into the midway portion of the second half when Hanover tallied two goals in two and a half minutes to break it open.

Rose-Hulman Twinbill: Manchester University’s men’s and women’s teams face a weekend doubleheader at Rose-Hulman Saturday, Oct. 7. Match times are 1 p.m. for the women and 3:30 p.m. for the men.
