The Southwood football team needed a win Friday over Maconaquah, then needed some help from Peru whom they beat up last week to get a shot at the TRC championship next week. The Knights took care of their end, dismantling the Braves 45-7 while Peru defeated North Miami to set up an MSD championship TRC game at Northfield next Friday.
Carson Blair would tie his single game record again with 6 TD passes with 5 of them coming in the first half. The Knights dominated right from the start, scoring on their third play of the game when Blair found Peyton Trexler for one of his five touchdown receptions for a 7-0 lead. With 1:37 left in the quarter the duo when hook up again from 26yds to lead 14-0 after one.
The second quarter found the ball in the air most of the quarter. Blair and Trexler would get together for an 80yd scoring strike with 10:53 on the clock to make it 21-0, then have Jackson Simons recover an onside kick. Parker Mays, after laying down the perfect onside kick was rewarded with 7:45 left when he kicked a 21yd field goal to make it 24-0. The Knights defense, who allowed Maconaquah past the 50 just twice in the game would get the ball back quick before Blair and Trexler this time hooked up for 83yds with 2:44 left to make it 31-0. The Knights would get the ball back one more time before the half when Blair found Matt Nose who made a remarkable catch from 30yds out to give Southwood a 38-0 lead at the half.
The Knights would score one more time with 10:17 left in the quarter via the Blair to Trexler hook up before calling off the dogs in a 45-7 win over the Braves.
