Apaches Score Early-Hold Off Whitko

The Wabash Apaches grabbed a 16-0 lead in the first quarter Friday, then held on to defeat Whitko 28-22.

The Apaches would get on the board twice in the first quarter. The first touchdown came when Devin Higdon connected with Austin Vinopal for a 34yd scoring strike, then got a two point conversion run by Payton Sodervick to lead 8-0. Higdon would later score on a 4yd run with Vinopal running in the two point conversion to lead 16-0 after one.

Whitko would get the lone score of the second quarter on a 25yd pass play to cut the Wabash lead in half with the Apaches leading 16-8 at the half.

The Wildcats would tie the score in the third before Jared Holley picked up a fumble and raced 48yds to pay dirt for a 22-16 lead with a quarter to go.

Again Whitko would score first in the quarter and the game was tied 22-22 when Higdon found Austin Wieland from 43yds away as the Apaches held off Whitko 28-22.
