CLERMONT, OHIO – Behind a juggernaut offensive attack, Manchester University increased its current win streak Saturday, Oct. 14.
The Spartans, moving to 11-8 overall and reaching double-digit victories for a third successive campaign, rolled past Ohio University at Chillicothe 25-14, 25-17, 25-14 and answered a first set loss to host University of Cincinnati at Clermont for a 23-25, 25-23, 25-16, 25-17 decision. The two victories wound up a 3-0 week in which they dropped just one set.
A quartet consisting of sophomore middle hitter Riley Patterson (Walkerton, Ind.); junior middle hitter Emma Voelker (North Bend, Ohio); junior middle hitter Hannah Tevis (Royal Center, Ind.); and junior right side hitter Haley Duncan (Albion, Ind.) made life difficult for OU-Chillicothe. Duncan drilled 10 kills with only two errors in 22 attempts for a .364 attack percentage; Tevis was just as active with seven kills, just one error, and a .353 clip; Voelker was nearly perfect with six kills in seven attempts for an astronomical .857 percentage; and Patterson hit at .429 with three kills and no errors in seven chances. Duncan and Tevis were just as tough on the defensive end, each totaling three blocks.
Match two saw more of the same. Duncan rattled 17 kills at UC-Clermont, running an impressive individual string to six straight games with 10-or-more; Tevis came back high with 12 kills and a .435 attack percentage; and sophomore outside hitter Emma DeWitt (Brookston, Ind.) added 11 kills.
The Spartans continue Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play Wednesday, Oct. 18. They travel to Defiance College for a 7 p.m. start.
