Strong first half spotlights Homecoming match

NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – Visiting Transylvania University broke open a nip-and-tuck Heartland Collegiate Athletic match-up with an early second-half attack Saturday, Oct. 14.

Despite a 4-0 defeat at the hands of the Pioneers due to three scores over a 15-minute span during the opening stages of the second stanza, positives did shine through for the host Spartans (0-14 overall, 0-5 HCAC). Two of the most significant saw junior goalkeeper Cami Holford (Valparaiso, Ind.) stand tall through a 16-5 shots disadvantage with four saves on five visiting shot on goal attempts to keep MU down just a goal at the break, and senior midfielder Courtney Hersick (Plymouth, Ind.), junior defender/midfielder Isabella Zoog (Brownsburg, Ind.) and junior midfielder/forward Maranda Birmingham (Kouts, Ind.) each keep pressure on TU’s end of Good Field with a combined nine total shots, four of which were on frame.

MU continues league play with a visit to Defiance College’s Winsper-Knobel Field Wednesday, Oct. 18. Match time is 3:30 p.m.
