The 2017-18 Manchester University wrestling team gives fans, friends and alumni a preview at the annual Black and Gold Night Friday, Oct. 27. Action begins at 5 p.m. in the parking lot between Garver Hall and the Jo Young Switzer Center on MU’s campus.
“Our guys like the idea of doing something that no one else does,” Coach Kevin Lake said in regards to continuing the outdoor event despite forecasted cold temperatures. “We might need to come in if it rains which would put us in the auxiliary gym. We want to treat this as an essential event to showcase our program.
“It serves a couple of purposes,” he added. “The first is to evaluate and see who our starters will be at the Eastern Michigan Open. The other is because some guys will be getting their first chance to be in a collegiate match situation in regards to the crowd, the official and so forth. They may have seen it at the high school level and in other instances but not like this. It’ll give us a chance to see what they do in the environment.”
