The #12 Southwood Knights sent a message to all doubters Friday night, putting up 487 total yards and blowing out #15 Eastside 51-19 in sectional semi final action.
The Blazers would get the ball first and eat up nearly five minutes before the Southwood defense stepped up with a stop. The Knights offense would waste no time setting the tone for the game when Carson Blair hit Peyton Trexler who out ran the defense for a 64yd touchdown with 6:59 on the clock for a 7-0 lead. Eastside would come right back, scoring on a 60yd touchdown pass with 6:36 on the clock for a 7-6 score. At that point it was lights out. The Knights would work their way down the field, capped off by an 8yd Gabe Lloyd TD run to give Southwood a 14-6 lead after one.
The Knights defense would get things going in the second when Cam Ball recovered a fumble that led to a Blair to Trexler 12yd touchdown and a 21-7 lead with 8:19 left in the half. With the defense dominating the offense would take advantage. Blair would throw his third touchdown of the game with 4:32 on the clock when he found Nathan Riggle from 6yds out, then get his fourth when he connected with Matt Nose from 9yds out with 33.4 left in the half for a 34-6 lead. The Knights defense would then come up big one more time when Tony Ricketts recovered a fumble, giving Southwood one more shot before the half that fell just short.
The Knights got the ball first in the second half, but failed to move down the field. Eastside would then have a chance to close the gap, again with the Knights defense stepping up and making the stop. With the ball back and Eastside dropping back as many defenders as possible Blair would use his legs instead of his arm, racing 19yds for a touchdown with 9:10 left to increase the lead to 41-6. Hitting on all cylinders the Knights would keep the foot on the gas with Blair and Trexler connecting one more tome from 20yds away as the game was well in control 48-6.
Eastside would get the first score of the fourth quarter on a 29yd pass play before Parker Mays connected on a 28yd field goal to lead 51-14. Eastside would score on the final play of the game for the 51-19 final.
