The Wabash Lady Apaches ran into a buzz saw Saturday and it wasn’t as much the Marion Giants as it was themselves.
The Lady Apaches battled turnovers and fouls the entire game as they fell to Marion 58-30. Marion would get the first bucket of the game that was answered by Bailey Yoakum before the Giants went on a 9-0 run to end the quarter and led the Apaches 13-2 after one.
Trailing 15-2 in the second Abby Vinopal would hit a free throw, followed by a bucket to make it 15-5 before Marion stretched their lead to 21-7. Carmen Higdon would hit four free throws with Alivia Short adding a bucket to make it 25-11 before the Giants scored 6 straight and led 31-11. Kiley Stone would hit the last bucket for Wabash in the quarter as the Apaches trailed 32-14 at the half.
Marion would increase their lead to 36-14 to start the third and led 40-16 before Higdon scored the Apaches first bucket of the quarter. Short would also hit for Wabash with the score being 45-21 with a quarter to go.
Marion would build a 55-23 lead in the fourth before four Yoakum free throws and a three from Higdon made it 55-30. Marion would go on to win 58-30.
Leading Wabash was Carmen Higdon with 10 points. Kiley Stone added 2, Bailey Yoakum 8, Abby Vinopal 5, Alivia Short 5.
The Wabash junior varsity defeated Marion 37-19
Maya Benysh and Nici Gunderman led with 8 points each. Delaney Truman added 7, Brooke Bowling 3, Sierra Hall 2, Mariah Wyatt 5, Alivia Short 4.
