The Southwood Lady Knights were short handed Friday night because of injuries and on top of that were hosting the number one team in the state in 3A Northwestern. The Tigers would score the first 39 points of the game as Southwood fell 75-6.
Northwestern showed right from the start why they are not just #1 one in 3A, but one of the best teams in the state as their height, speed and depth overwhelmed the Knights for a 32-0 first quarter score.
Northwestern would score the first 7 points of the second quarter before Kayla Mays broke the drought with a bucket. Makayla Bechtold would also hit a bucket in the quarter as the Knights trailed 50-4 at the half.
The Northwestern wave of depth would keep coming in the third as they out scored Southwood 15-2. Erin Lehner had the Knights bucket.
Coach West quote “Definitely a tough hit on the chin and no one enjoys a defeat like this. But I still believe in my girls, and we will try to utilize this game as a way to learn life lessons about adversity and resiliency. There are far worse things that can happen than losing, failing to learn from this and move forward would be one of them.”
Northwestern would win the fourth for the 75-6 final
