MU tips off HCAC slate tonight

Defiance College’s visit to Stauffer-Wolfe Arena on Manchester University Monday, Nov. 27, begins the 2017-18 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference schedule for both programs.

Game details: Tip-off time is 7:30 p.m. … Live audio, statistics and video are available via a link at, the Internet home of Manchester University athletics … MU, looking to end a two-game skid, sports a 1-3 record, while the Yellow Jackets are 1-2. DC has won 10 of the last 12 series meetings, but last year saw a split with both sides winning on their home courts.

Spartan Shorts: History could be part of the game’s resume, as junior guard Adrian Johnson (Indianapolis, Ind.) stands three points shy of becoming the 29th player to become a member of Manchester University’s 1,000-point club … Johnson, who’s among the conference’s top five in scoring (21.8 ppg – No. 3), made and attempted field goals (32 of 61 – No. 1) and made and attempted free throws (18 of 21 – No. 1) crept close with a 26-point outing in a 71-61 loss at the hands of Trine University Nov. 22. Senior forward/center Enis Becirevic (Fort Wayne, Ind.) found himself in double-figure scoring, too. The duo needed each of their 36 combined points to enable Coach Gerad Good’s side to keep within range of the Thunder at Hershey Hall. TU, picking up their first win of the season, built as large as a 14-point second half lead due to MU going scoreless during a six-minute-plus stretch. Good’s side clawed and scratched back to within two late in the contest (62-60), but Trine fended them off by going six-of-six at the free throw line and canning a big trey over the last 2:06 to win 71-61. Johnson managed contributions in nearly every category, tallying a team-leading 26 points on nine-of-19 field goal shooting, which included hitting two of four three-point attempts, and a six-of-eight effort at the charity stripe. Continuing a personal streak of 10 successive double-digit point contests dating back to late 2016-17, he added a rebound, an assist, two steals and a blocked shot. Becirevic ended with 10 points, four rebounds, and two assists. Junior guard/forward David Stinson (Aurora, Ill.) added a strong outing off the bench for the visitors (1-3). He finished with seven points, five steals, an assist and a rebound in 28 minutes of action … The Black and Gold take a southeastern journey to Cincinnati Saturday, Dec. 2, tackling conference foe Mt. St. Joseph University in a doubleheader along with the women’s team.
