The Wabash Lady Apaches jumped out to a 9 point lead in the first quarter Wednesday and led at the half before Alexandria came back to defeat the Apaches 60-46.
Wabash would get the first two buckets from Bailey Yoakum and with the game tied 4-4 would go on a 9-0 run. Cartmen Higdon would score the first 7 points of the run with Hope Unger adding a bucket for a 13-4 lead. Alexandria would score the final two buckets of the quarter as Wabash led 13-8.
The Tigers would make it 13-10 to start the second quarter when it looked as though the Apaches would take control of the game. Alivia Short would connect, followed by a Higdon bucket and a free throw to lead 18-10. Alex would cut the lead to 18-14 before Higdon and Tabby Wagner hit to make it 22-14. The next 6 points would come from the Tigers to cut the Wabash lead to 22-20 before Higdon hit three straight free throws for a 25-20 lead. Again Alex would come back to make it 25-24 before a Higdon bucket before the buzzer gave the Apaches a 27-24 lead at the half.
Alexandria would tie the score at 29 early in the third before a Yoakum three point play made it 32-29. Alex would then score 6 straight and grabbed their first lead of the night at 35-32. Yoakum and Short would hit again for Wabash but the Apaches were having a hard time stopping the Tigers fast break as Alexandria led 42-37 after three.
Alexandria would score the first 4 points of the fourth quarter to extend their lead to 46-37 before Higdon hit back to back shots to make it 46-41. At 51-44 it was all down hill for Wabash as Alex scored the next 6 points and 9 of the next 11 to defeat Wabash 60-46.
Carmen Higdon led Wabash with 28 points. Bailey Yoakum added 9, Alivia Short 5, Hope Unger 2, Tabby Wagner 2.
The Wabash junior varsity defeated Alexandria 48-41.
