Norse Take Girls/Knights Take Boys In Metro Double Header

It was marathon night at Southwood as Northfield came calling. Four games were on tap as the junior varsity boys and girls did battle with Northfield winning the girls 56-13 and Southwood winning the boys 59-19. The varsity girls were up next with Northfield winning 58-15. The night cap was the varsity boys with the Knights defeating the Norse 76-48.

The girls game would get off to a slow start. Ariel Dale gave Northfield a 2-0 lead before Kayla Mays tied the score. Northfield led 4-3 when they scored the last 4 points of the quarter with a Dale bucket and two Ally Keaffaber free throws to lead 8-3 after one.

The Knights would get a free throw each from Morgan Farr and Mays to start the second quarter to cut the Norse lead to 8-5 before Northfield went on an 9-0 run to open a 17-5 lead. Kelcie Thomson and Maddie Clark hit along with two Dale buckets. Clark and Dale would finish the scoring in the quarter as Northfield led 21-6 at the half.

The Norse would come out swinging in the third, scoring the first 13 points of the quarter and led 34-6 before Alissa Pershing stopped the run with a bucket. Northfield led 36-11 after three.

Again the Norse would start a quarter on a run, opening the fourth on a 10-0 run to lead 46-11 before Makayla Bechtold drained a three to make it 46-14. At 48-15 the Norse would score the last 10 points of the game for the 58-15 win.

Ariel Dale led with 19 points and 5 steals. Kelcie Thomson added 8 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and 8 steals. Addi Baker
followed with 8 points, 8 rebounds, and 1 steal. Abbey Ross added 4 points, Ally Keaffaber 5, Maddie Clark 6, Kyra Kennedy 4, Kierston Stout 4.

For Southwood

The boys were up next with the game being tight most of the first quarter before the Knights took control. Peyton Trexler and Kyle Reed would trade buckets to start the game and with the score 4-4 Carson Blair drained a three. Two Reed free throws made it 7-6 before Blair hit from long range again, followed by a Dallas Holmes rebound basket to put Southwood up 12-6. Cole Rosen would come off the bench and give the Norse a boost with 4 quick points to make it 14-10 before Ethen Roberts hit before two Holmes buckets to make it 20-10 after one.

After a Reed bucket started the second quarter the Knights would go on a 10-0 run, aided by Blair’s third bomb to lead 30-13. The two teams would trade buckets until 34-17 when Joe Halderman hit a three, followed by a free throw from Nate Drancik to make it 34-21. The Knights led 36-23 at the half.

The three man wrecking crew for the Knights would go off in the third as Southwood put up 27 points. Trexler would score 11 points in the quarter with Matt Nose adding 10, including two buckets from behind the arch. Carson Blair chipped in two buckets. Although they score 15 points the Norse would lose ground in the quarter. Logan Peas hit a three with Reed leading the way with 8 points. Halderman and Jared Peas each had a bucket, but the Knights lead increased to 63-38 after three.

Southwood would build their lead to 69-40 early in the fourth with Nose and Trexler hitting three’s while the Norse got a long ball from Jared Peas. The Knights went on for the 76-48 win.
