Spartans, Fightin’ Engineers tangle in HCAC tilt

Manchester winds up its 2017-18 pre-Christmas Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference schedule Saturday, Dec. 16, at Rose-Hulman’s Hulbert Arena.

Spartan Shorts: The Spartans take a 1-7 overall and 0-3 conference record into Saturday’s contest, as they look to end a six-game skid. It’s been a story of near misses early on, as MU has dropped five games by 10-points-or-less including a 91-86 home battle against Earlham Dec. 9 … Junior guard Adrian Johnson (Indianapolis, Ind.), riding a 14-game double-figure scoring string, has risen to second in the HCAC and into the top 60 in NCAA Division III in points per game (20.8). It’s one of two high 10s he’s in for the league, as the junior is also sixth in assists (3.5 pg). Senior forward/center Enis Becirevic (Fort Wayne, Ind.) finds himself among the league’s top 10, too, in rebounding (6.5 pg – No. 4) as does the trio of senior guard Brody Kirby (Frankfort, Ind.); senior forward Kenny Doss, Jr. (Chicago, Ill.) and junior guard David Stinson (Aurora, Ill.) in steals (Doss, Jr. and Stinson T-4th – 1.6 pg/Kirby 7th – 1.5 pg) … Following Saturday’s clash, MU breaks from competition until Friday and Saturday, Dec. 29 and 30, when they are part of the field at Oglethorpe University of Georgia’s Holiday Inn Express and Suites tournament. The Spartans take on Geneva College of Pennsylvania in the tourney opener Dec. 29.
