NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – Senior special teams’ standout Dakota Nelson (Fairland, Ind.) added to an impressive resume of 2017 postseason awards Friday night, Dec. 15.
Prior to kickoff at the NCAA Division III national championship game at Salem, Va., D3Football.com announced its top three teams and honorable mention honors. Nelson, already a first team all-North Region pick at a returner slot, was tabbed a second team All-American.
He concluded a storybook career for the Black and Gold this fall, ranking among NCAA Division III’s statistical top 10 in kickoff return touchdowns (2 – No. 2); combined kick return yardage (1,025 – No. 3); kickoff return yardage per attempt (28.6 – No. 6); and all-purpose yardage per game (190.1). Nelson also concluded his Spartan playing career as Manchester University’s career leader in touchdowns (34) and single-season receiving yardage (1,116 – 2014).
In regards to his career postseason awards cache, he adds the second team D3Football.com All-American accolade to two career all-region selections from the same website, two Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Year recognitions and three overall all-league mentions.
