The Northfield Lady Norse took on a much taller Mississinewa club Thursday, leading by one after the first quarter before running away from the Indians 74-48.
Mississinewa would score the first bucket of the game that was quickly erased by an Ally Keaffaber three. Down 4-3 Ariel Dale would convert a three point play for a 6-4 lead, but the Indians wouldn’t go away as the Norse led just 12-11 midway through the quarter. The Norse trailed 17-16 before Dale ended the quarter with a bucket and a Northfield 18-17 lead.
Baker would score off a steal to start the second quarter and led 20-19 when Keaffaber hit, followed by two Baker free throws to make it 24-19. At 24-21 Kelcie Thomson would join in with a bucket and was followed by a Dale three to go up 29-21. Leading 31-24 Baker would hit three straight free throws before Abbey Ross ended the quarter with a bucket as the Norse led 36-24 at the half.
Kelcie Thomson would get hot to start the third quarter with two buckets, one from behind the arch to increase the Norse lead to 43-26. After Melanie Beery and Thomson made it 50-35 the Norse would get a rebound bucket from Kearston Stout, followed by a Dale bucket and two free throws after being fouled on a steal with 0.4 on the clock to make it 56-35 with a quarter to go.
The Indians tried to make a game of it in the fourth as they cut the Northfield lead to 60-44 early. One more bucket from the Indians could have made things interesting, but the Norse would erase all hope. Kyra Kennedy would hit two free throws, followed by 6 straight points from Thomson as the lead grew to 68-44. The Norse would have one more 6-0 run as they cruised to the 74-48 win.
