TERRE HAUTE, IND. – A combination of field and track success guided Manchester University at the Rose-Hulman Duals Friday, Jan. 12.
The Spartans’ men’s and women’s squad each picked up a pair of individual event titles. A pair of new faces made good first impressions among them. Junior Laina Boggs (Frankfort, Ind.) captured the women’s shot put (11.35 meters), and freshman Travis Murr (Franklin, Ind.) edged senior teammate Harrison Hollis (Lebanon, Ind.) at the tape for the 60-meter dash victory (7.137-7.14 seconds). Each of their efforts was among the program’s top 10 all-time.
The remaining victories for Coach Brian Cashdollar’s squad occurred on the track. Sophomore Hannah Wappes (Columbia City, Ind.) rolled to the 800 meter top spot by nearly eight full seconds, and the men’s 4×200 team, featuring Murr as a double-winner and joined by Hollis, freshman Nathan Weaver (Goshen, Ind.) and junior Austin Coughlin (Fairland, Ind.), nipped the host Fightin’ Engineers (1:35.16-1:35.19).
Manchester University’s season continues Saturday, Jan. 20. They are among the team rosters for Trine University’s Keith Turner Alumni Invitational.
