There was a big TRC girls basketball game at Northfield Wednesday as the Lady Norse played host to North Miami. Both teams needed a win to stay at the top of the leader board and the game was everything it was billed to be as the Norse held off the Warriors 53-50.
North Miami would get off to a great start, getting buckets from Adria Hartley, Caily Bolser and Cailyn Bolser to start the game on a 9-0 run. Kelcie Thomson would stop the run with a three that was followed by a Ally Keaffaber bucket to make it 9-5 before Caily Bolser made it 11-5. Kyra(Tigger) Kennedy and Ariel Dale would each hit two free throws to end the scoring in the quarter with North Miami leading 11-9.
The Norse would start the second quarter with a Thomson steal that led to a Dale layup, followed by a Keaffaber three to put the Norse up 14-11 before Caily Bolser answered with a three to make it 14-14. Addi Baker would then give the Norse the lead before Kayla Kraning would tie the score before the Warriors took an 18-16 lead on a bucket from Hartley. Thomson would then hit from behind the arch to put Northfield back up 19-18 before Hartley tied the score with a free throw. The last bucket of the quarter would come from Baker as Northfield led 21-19 at the half.
Ariel Dale would drain a three to start the third quarter and after a Bailey Keim bucket it was 24-21. Keaffaber would then find the bottom of the bucket from behind the arch, followed by a bucket from Baker as the Norse lead grew to 29-21. The Warriors would answer with buckets from Hannah Hall and Caily Bolser to make it 29-25 before Dale hit from behind the arch for a second time in the quarter to make it 32-25. Back came the Warriors.Caily Bolser would hit a free throw, followed by a bucket from Keim and a three from Hall to close the deficit to 32-31 before Dale hit from long range again. With Northfield leading 35-31 MaryAnn Freeman would hit a free throw, followed by buckets from Cailyn Bolser and Hall to score the last 5 points of the quarter to give North Miami a 36-35 lead with a quarter to go.
Thomson would tie the game with a free throw to start the fourth quarter before the Warriors opened a lead. Hartley would hit a free throw, followed by two Caily Bolser buckets to put the Warriors up 41-36 before Keaffaber hit the Norse 8th three pointer of the game to make it 41-39. Hartley would then hit for a four point lead before the Norse went on a run. Addi Baker would make it 43-41 before the Norse hit 5 straight free throws to take a 46-43 lead. Hartley would make it 46-45 before Dale hit from long range again for a 49-45 lead. Two Hartley free throws made it 49-47 with 1:30 to play before Keaffaber made it 51-47. Hannah Hall hit for North Miami before Keim hit a free throw with 32.9 left to make it 51-50. North Miami would foul with 24.4 on the clock with the Norse missing the free throw and the Warriors racing down the floor, missing two shot opportunities before Thomson grabbed the rebound and was fouled with 1.7 left, hitting two free throws to seal the 53-50 win.
Ariel Dale led with 18 points and 3 rebounds followed by Ally Keaffaber 13 points, 3 rebounds and 2 steals. Kelcie Thomson added 10 points, 5 rebounds, 8 assists, and 3 steals. Addi Baker had 10 points and 5 rebounds. Kyra Kennedy added 2 points.
Northfield won the junior varsity game 54-15
