Southwood C At Marion Invite

The Knights took on the Berries in the opening round of the Marion Invitational. Southwood struggled to connect on open shots in the first frame. But thanks to a pair of Logan Barley three-pointers in the quarter, the game stayed competitive. The second quarter was a back and forth affair as the Knights tried to use their speed to their advantage against the larger Logansport team. Southwood trailed at the half by six. The Knight shooting woes would continue into the second half. An opportunistic pressing attack in the fourth quarter gave the Knights several chances to inch the score closer. The lead would get as small as four with 22 seconds remaining, but were unable to make the plays and hit free throws down the stretch.

In the consolation game Southwood took on the Bruins of Blackford High School. Although they had just finished playing a game, the Knights got into the passing lanes and forced several turnovers. In addition to forcing turnovers, the Knights were able to look ahead and find their teammates streaking down the floor for a layups. They remained on the attack offensively and were able to knock down a few of the close shots that had evaded them in the first game. A fast-paced first half led the Knights to a 35-15 lead. As opposed to the Peru game last week, the Knights showed improvement and kept the hammer down through the second half and did not allow the Bruins to make a run. All players were able to contribute today and continue to get better. Following today’s tournament the Knights record now stands at 8-4 and will be back in action Monday.
