MU turns in winning marks

CRAWFORDSVILLE, IND. – The quartet of junior 133-pounder Ben Cauffman (Fort Wayne, Ind.), senior 141/149-pounder Chase Wilson (Peru, Ind.), sophomore 149-pounder Jordan Napier (Indianapolis, Ind.) and senior 174-pounder Tristan Wilson (Fort Wayne, Ind.) helped Manchester University produce a big day of results at Wabash College’s Knowling Fieldhouse Saturday, Jan. 20.

Each of the group went unbeaten over three duals for Coach Kevin Lake’s Spartans.

Cauffman turned in a fall, and Chase Wilson registered a major decision to go along with a forfeit win for freshman 125-pounder Elijuh Weaver (Warren, Mich.) to give MU a 16-0 lead over Cornell College of Iowa after three matches in the opening match-up. After the Rams rallied to within 16-15, Tristan Wilson was a winner in an overtime thriller for a 19-15 edge before Cornell reeled off three straight falls for a 33-19 decision.

Cauffman, Chase Wilson, and Napier answered a decision victory for Thomas More College in the team’s second bout with a pair of a falls and a technical fall, as the Black and Gold was off to a 33-20 win. Tristan Wilson‘s pin and a major decision for senior 165-pounder Alex Arney (Fort Wayne, Ind.) salted away the outcome.

In MU’s final outing, it took a criteria point for them to slip past UW-Oshkosh 26-25. A Weaver pin and Cauffman decision staked Lake’s crew to a 9-0 lead, and Chase Wilson and Napier each tallied falls, and Tristan Wilson was a winner by major decision to aid the final result.

Manchester University (4-8) steps away from dual action Friday and Saturday, Jan. 26 and 27. They are among the field at Wheaton College of Illinois’ Pete Willson Invitational.
