The Southwood Lady Knights trailed most of the game Wednesday, making a fourth quarter run to grab the lead with just less than a minute to go, only to give up a three pointer and fall to Southern Wells 49-46.
Kayla Mays would give Southwood a 2-1 lead and again at 4-3, followed by a bucket from Morgan Farr to lead 6-3. Things were looking good as the Knights led 9-5 after a Makenna Pace bucket when the Knights were called for a technical foul for an illegal substitution. Southern Wells would hit two free throws on a foul call, then one for the technical before hitting three more before the buzzer and led the Knights 12-9 after one.
The Knights would come out the second quarter regrouped and started the quarter on a 7-0 run. Erin Lehner would hit two free throws, followed by a Sydney Helfin bucket off a steal. Pace would then drain a three pointer to grab a 16-12 lead before things went cold as fast as they got hot. The Raiders would answer with 7 straight points of their own, holding Southwood scoreless the remainder of the quarter and led 19-16 at the half.
The Knights would continually knock on the door in the third quarter, getting buckets from Alissa Pershing and Morgan Farr, plus free throws from Lehner before Southern Wells hit a runner at the buzzer and led 32-25 with a quarter to go.
The Knights could not close the gap less than 5 points for most of the fourth quarter and trailed 43-35 with two minutes remaing when they found another gear. Pace would hit a three and was followed by two Lehner free throws to make it 43-40 before a steal led to a Keagan Simpson layup, followed by a Helfin steal for a bucket and just like that the Knights were up 44-43. Southern Wells would tie the score with a free throw before Lehner hit from the right side, making it 46-44. The Raiders would answer with a three to take the lead back 47-46 and eventually forced the Knights to foul with 6.7 seconds left. They would hit both free throws for a 49-46 lead, leaving Southwood 6 seconds to try and tie. The Knights raced down the floor and was unable to get off a shot in the 49-46 loss.
