NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – Junior 133-pounder Ben Cauffman (Fort Wayne, Ind.) and senior 197-pounder Alex Roberts (Campbelltown, Ind.) spotlighted a weekend tussle between two programs separated by only 40 geographical miles for the host Manchester University Spartans Friday, Feb. 2.
MU, battling an Indiana Tech program ranked No. 5 by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, was overcome by seven bonus-point triumphs by the Warriors inside Stauffer-Wolfe Arena.
Despite the 37-9 loss that dropped their team record to 4-9, the home fans had plenty to cheer about when Cauffman and Roberts took the mat. Cauffman, improving to 16-4, took the measure of Cam Fender after an early scoreless period by rolling up 10 second period points. The match was eventually stopped due to a disqualification for multiple stalling call violations by Fender that gave the Black and Gold a 6-4 team lead. Robert snapped Indiana Tech’s six straight victories with a thrilling 8-6 decision over Josue Hill in the fourth meeting between the two individuals. A strong third period on top pushed the senior to his 10th win of the campaign.
Manchester University resumes a run of four straight home events Tuesday, Feb. 6. They welcome in-state NCAA Division III rival Trine University for a 7:30 p.m. start which is highlighted by Senior Night 2018 festivities pre-dual.
