Lady Norse Upset In Sectional Championship

The Northfield Lady Norse were one game away from a sectional championship Saturday as they played Tri Central for the Clinton Central championship. A night of cold shooting had bad timing as the Lady Norse were upset 49-42.

Tri Central would grab a 6-0 lead on two three pointers before the Norse would answer with a 10-0 run. Kelcie Thomson got things going with a bucket and a steal to feed Ariel Dale for a layup to make it 6-4. Addi Baker would then tie the socre before Thomson hit two free throws and a bucket to give Northfield a 10-6 lead. Tri Central would tie the score at 10 before Melanie Beery hit two free throws to give the Norse a 12-10 lead after one.

Abbey Ross would hit a free throw to start the second quarter before the Trojans hit two straight to grab a 14-13 lead. Dale would answer with two free throws before a Tri Central three made it 17-15. Thomson would come back with two free throws, followed by a Dale bucket to put Northfield up 19-17 before Tri Central hit at the buzzer to make it 19-19 at the half.

It looked as though the Norse would find their groove to start the third quarter when Ally Keaffaber hit, followed by a Thomson three to give the Norse a 24-19 lead. Northfield was leading 28-27 when the Trojans hit two straight to grab a 31-28 lead that was quickly answered by a three from Thomson and a deuce from Beery for a 33-31 lead when Tri Central hit another three to end the quarter and led 34-33 with a quarter to go.

Tri Central would hit a three to start the fourth quarter and grab a 37-33 lead before Baker and Dale made it 37-37. The Trojans would then take advantage of some cold Norse shooting, going on a 7-0 run to grab a 44-37 lead with 2:01 to play. Thomson would stop the run with a free throw before Tri Central hit three straight free throws to lead 47-38. Melanie Beery would make it 47-40 with 46 second left before the Norse foued. The Trojans hit both free throws to grab a 49-40 lead on the way to the 49-42 final.

Scoring : Abbey Ross 1, Ariel Dale 10, Ally Keaffaber 2, Kelcie Thomson 16, Kyra Kennedy 2, Melanie Beery 6, Addi Baker 4.
