Black and Gold collect five event titles

ANDERSON, IND. – The first of three trips this season to Anderson University’s Kardatzke Wellness Center produced impressive results Saturday, Feb. 3.

Manchester University’s men’s and women’s squads, in a non-scored AU Raven Invitational, put five event firsts and three school records during the afternoon and evening. Coach Brian Cashdollar’s men’s crew posted the new program bests, as senior Harrison Hollis (Lebanon, Ind.) was the champion in the 60 meters and nicked freshman teammate Travis Murr‘s old record by two-hundredths of a second (7.05) in the process. Murr, a native of Franklin, Ind., came back and slipped past Hollis in the 200 with a winning time of 22.93 seconds, trimming 19-hundredths of a second off the former program mark set by Korey Bucher (23.12) in 2010. The pair was also on the runner-up 4×200 team along with sophomore Austin Roberts (Indianapolis, Ind.) and senior Austin Coughlin (Fairland, Ind.) that clocked a 1:32.31 to topple the former school mark by over three seconds.

MU’s women had s similarly strong resume. Sophomore Emily Lynn (North Manchester, Ind.) dominated the 5000 meter run field by nearly 13 full seconds winning in 20:34.5; junior Dasia Beck (Indianapolis, Ind.) proved fastest in the 60 meter dash final, as her time of 8.18 seconds knocked off Lindsey Wilson College’s Lauren Buchanan by five-hundredths of a second; and sophomore Hannah Wappes (Columbia City, Ind.), joining Murr in winning at least one event for a third successive meet, defeated a quartet of NCAA Division I athletes from Miami University of Ohio to claim the 800 meters by five seconds-plus (2:22.69-2:27.72).

The Spartans conclude their pre-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships schedule Friday, Feb. 9, at the Defiance College of Ohio Open.
