Knights Jump On Braves To Win Fourth Consecutive TRC Title

The Southwood Knights were playing for at least a share of the TRC title Friday as they played host to Maconaquah. The Knights and the Braves were both undefeated in conference play with the winner putting themselves in the drivers seat. The Knights came out on a mission, jumping on the Braves early and running away for the win 68-41. With the win, Southwood has won four consecutive TRC crowns.

Southwood jumped out to a 5-0 lead on a bucket from Peyton Trexler and a three from Carson Blair before Ethan Larason made it 5-2. Blair and Chance Hagan would then trade buckets to make it 7-4. Southwood was leading 12-9 after Blair and Larason traded long balls when the Knights would score 7 straight. Ethan Roberts hit to start the run with Dallas Holmes and Blair scoring. Larason would get the final bucket of the quarter as Southwood led 19-11 after one.

Chandler Pitts would hit the first bucket of the second quarter that was answered by Blair’s third three to make it 22-13. The Braves would then get back to back buckets from Conner Middlekouff and Pitts to cut the Knights lead to 22-17 before Holmes hit, followed by two Trexler free throws.At 27-19 Holmes would score 4 straight to open a 31-19 lead before Larason made it 31-21. The last points of the quarter would come from a Holmes free throw and a Trexler three as Southwood led 35-21 at the half.

Matt Nose would get his first bucket of the game to start the third quarter that was answered by Larason before the Knights took off on an 8-0 run. Blair would start the run with Trexler and Holmes adding baskets. Southwood led 45-23 when Middlekouff hit, followed by Larason and another Middlekouff bucket to make it 45-29 before Blair scored twice to make it 49-29. Southwood led 51-31 after three.

The Knights would stretch their lead to 58-23 early in the fourth on the back of Matt Nose with Pitts and Larason leading the Braves. Dallas Holmes would lead the Knights in the quarter with 6 points as Southwood went on to the 68-41 win.

The Southwood junior varsity got a buzzer beater three from Alex Farr to send the game to overtime before defeating the Braves 43-42.
