Final pre-HCAC tune-up nets two titles

DEFIANCE, OHIO – Sophomore sprinter Dasia Beck (Indianapolis, Ind.) claimed the 60-meter dash for a second successive meet, and senior thrower Jacey Cauhorn (Kendallville, Ind.) stood atop the shot put podium highlighting efforts for Manchester University at Defiance College’s Dick Small Memorial Invitational Friday, Feb. 9.

Beck cruised past DC’s Danielle Robbins by 19-hundredths of a second for the top spot, finishing in 8.24 seconds. Cauhorn and fellow senior Whitney White (Portage, Ind.) went one-two in the shot put claiming the same spots on the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference performance list with tosses of 39 feet, four and a half inches and 39 feet, two and a half inches, respectively.

Beck came back for a runner-up effort in the 200-meter dash (27.71 seconds). She was joined by freshman hurdler Kasia Melham (Yorktown, Ind.) (60 meter hurdles – 10.92 seconds) and the 4×400 meter relay crew of junior Jade Bollett (Auburn, Ind.), freshman Hayley Musser (Oxford, Ind.), junior Brittany Udell (Niles, Mich.) and sophomore Isabella Case (Fort Wayne, Ind.) (4:50.92) in runner-up status.

MU continues its 2018 campaign Saturday, Feb. 17, competing in the 2018 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships.
