ANDERSON, IND. – Clocking a top 50 NCAA Division III and Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships’ record time in the 800 and running to first in the mile by almost seven full seconds, the beat continued for Manchester University sophomore standout Hannah Wappes (Columbia City, Ind.) Saturday, Feb. 17.
Wappes captured her second and third career indoor conference event titles at Anderson University’s Kardatzke Wellness Center. Her time of 2:18.97 bested the old league meet mark of 2:20.27 set by Rose-Hulman’s Creasy Clauser, and her finish adjusted to 2:17.39 due to track size on the national list placed her 47th-fastest. She came back later in the meet to cruise to first in the mile with a time of 5:25.78.
The track wasn’t the only place to produce event firsts for Coach Brian Cashdollar’s Spartans. Senior thrower Jacey Cauhorn (Kendallville, Ind.) stood atop the shot put podium with a top toss of 11.95 meters to eclipse runner-up Eve Galbreath of Hanover College (11.58).
MU tallied 74 points, good for fourth place. Junior sprinter Dasia Beck (Indianapolis, Ind.) made it four top two efforts, as she was a close second in the 60 meter dash (8.16 seconds) with Bluffton University’s Keturah Warlick winning in 8.09 seconds.
Cashdollar’s team makes its third appearance at AU Saturday, Feb. 24. They compete in the Fred Wilt Invitational with a 3 p.m. start.
