NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – Manchester University Director of Athletics Rick Espesetannounced Monday, Feb. 26, that Dr. Wendy Hoffman has been named interim men’s and women’s head tennis coach.
Hoffman, also an Assistant Professor in Marketing and Management at MU, pursued tennis in her high school years and walked-on to the tennis team at St. Joseph’s University (NCAA Division 1) in Philadelphia, Penn., where her collegiate playing accolades included being a four-year varsity player and captain of the team during her senior year. At graduation, she was recognized with the Leadership Award for the Outstanding Senior Female Athlete. Hoffman has been a member of the Lexington Tennis Club, the United States Tennis Association, and holds a lifetime membership with the William J. Moore Tennis Center in Cape May, N.J.
In 1996, while a faculty member at Midway College in Midway, KY, she revived the college’s tennis program that had previously been defunct as a member of the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference within the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. In her first year, Hoffman was awarded 1996-97 KIAC Tennis Coach of the Year. Continuing on as head coach for seventeen years with winning records in all but one year, she repeated KIAC Coach of the Year honors in 1999-00, 2007-08, 2008-09, 2009-2010 for five honors over her Midway coaching career. She also served as the school’s Director of Athletics for seven years and was named the league’s AD of the Year in 2010-11.
