Squires Struggle With Golden Eagles Height

It was opening night of the Manchester sectional Tuesday with the Squires taking on the #8 Oak Hill Golden Eagles in the first game. Manchester would hang with Oak Hill the first quarter, trailing by just 6 before the Golden Eagles huge height advantage took over in a 59-44 win over the Squires.

Oak Hill would score the first five points of the game off three from Tyce Frank and a bucket from Caleb Middlesworth before a Weston Hamby three made it 5-3. The Golden Eagles would respond with a three and a deuce from Spencer Ballinger for a 10-3 lead before two Mason Hamby free throws made it 10-5. Back came Ballinger with a bucket, followed by a Mason Hamby three to cut the Oak Hill ead to 12-8. Middlesworth and Mason Hamby would then trade buckets before Ballinger ended the quarter with a two and a 16-10 Oak Hill lead after one.

Oak Hill would come out hot to start the second quarter. Middlesworth would get the scoring going with two free throws, followed by a Frank three to make it 21-10. Middlesworth would then hit a banker for a 23-10 score before the Squires finally got on the board on a Brayden Casper three. The two teams would trade points until 33-16 when Middlesworth hit, followed by a Konnor Cabe three to make it 33-16. The Squires would respond to end the quarter. Koehl Fluke would hit two free throws before Mason Hamby ended the quarter with a make at the buzzer. Oak Hill led 33-20 at the half.

Manchester would continue their run to start the third quarter with a Fluke three to cut the deficit to 33-23 that was answered by a Cabe three. Fluke would come right back with a long ball to make it 36-26 before Oak Hill would score six straight. Spencer Ballinger would start the run and was followed by Frank and David Arens to increase the Eagles lead to 42-26. Mason Hamby would stop the run with a three that was answered by a Ballinger two before once again the Squires would get the deficit to 10. Weston Hamby would hit and convert a three point play, then hit again to make it 44-34. Frank would hit the final bucket of the quarter on a runner up the middle to give Oak Hill a 46-34 lead after three.

Konner Cabe would hit his third long ball of the game to start the fourth quarter and increase the Eagles lead to 49-34 before a Weston Hamby three and a free throw from Casper made it 49-38. Weston Hamby would sandwich buckets between Ballinger and Middlesworth to make it 53-40 before two Mason Hamby free throws made it 53-42. The Eagles would then put the game away with a buckets from Arens and Frank, followed by a Ballinger dunk to make it 59-42. Kam Lester scored the final two points of the night from the charity stripe as Oak Hill defeated Manchester 59-44.
