Two titles top efforts

ANDERSON, IND. – A trio featuring sophomore distance runner Hannah Wappes (Columbia City, Ind.), senior thrower Jacey Cauhorn (Kendallville, Ind.) and junior sprinter Dasia Beck(Indianapolis, Ind.) led Manchester University at the Fred Wilt Invitational Saturday, Feb. 24.

Wappes, fresh off Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Track Athlete of the Year honors at last weekend’s championships roared to the 800-meter title on the same track, crossing the finishing line at Anderson University’s Kardatzke Wellness Center in 2:20.32, besting the field by over nine seconds. Beck added a second Black and Gold individual title, claiming the 60 meters in 8.14 seconds. Cauhorn wrapped up the headlines for Coach Brian Cashdollar’s team, ending second in the shot put (11.74 meters).

The Spartans conclude the regular season Saturday, March 3. They will send select individuals to the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point last chance national qualifying meet.
