The Northfield and Southwood baseball teams met at Northfield Monday with the Norse out hitting the Knights 14-4 in an 8-4 win.
The Knights would get a run in the first and second to grab a 2-0 lead. In the first with one out Clayton Wells and Logan Barley would draw back to back walks. Wells would steal third and home for a 1-0 lead.
In the top of the second Gabe Lloyd would draw a walk before a Cam Ball double put runners on second and third with no outs. Lloyd would then score on a wild pitch for a 2-0 lead. Norse pitcher Blake Harner would get out of the inning with two strike outs. In the bottom of the second Matt Coe would lead off with a home run to make it 2-1 before Nate Drancik hit a double. Jared Vigar would follow reaching on an error with Drancik advancing to third. Clayton Tomlinson would then fly out to right with Drancik tagging and scoring to make it 2-2. With two outs Trevor Burnworth would reach on an error with Vigar scoring to give the Norse a 3-2 lead.
Southwood would come back in the top of the third to tie the score. Wells would lead off with a single. Wells would then steal second and third before scoring on a throwing error. The Norse would come right back in the bottom of the inning. Harner would lead off with a double and was followed by a Coe walk. Drancik would sacrifice both runners a base before a Vigar ground out scored Harner. Tomlinson would follow with a single that scored Coe to give Northfield a 5-3 lead.
In the fifth Mason Yentes would lead off with a walk before being forced out on a fielders choice. Wells would then try to second, this time being thrown out. With two outs Barley would walk and take second on a passed ball before Alex Farr doubled home Barley to make it 5-4.
In the bottom of the sixth with one out Chance Hartman would single and was followed by a Harner double. Coe would then single home both runners to make it 7-4. After a Drancik single, Vigar would knock home Coe to make it 8-4.
Norse pitcher Jonah Truman would shut the Knights down in the seventh for the 8-4 final.
