LEXINGTON, KY. – Seniors Garrett Bear (Indianapolis, Ind.); Spencer Thomas (Yorktown, Ind.); and Kyler Love (North Webster, Ind.) joined freshman Isaac Miller (Goshen, Ind.) reeled off straight-set singles’ victories, leading Manchester University Saturday, April 28.
Love claimed his fourth straight triumph and moved to 7-4 on the season, knocking off the Pioneers’ Brandon Stofelth 6-0, 6-4 at number four. Bear gave up just three game decisions to Transylvania University’s J.T. Henderson to win 6-1, 6-2 at number six; Thomas was nearly perfect at number five claiming a 6-1, 6-0 positive versus Edis Sinanovic; and Miller had a stranglehold on Eric Sandknop from the beginning winning 6-0, 6-0 at number three. Those pluses spotlighted an 8-2 Black and Gold triumph at TU’s tennis complex.
Interim head coach Dr. Wendy Hoffman’s squad, improving to 4-7 overall and 4-3 in the conference, was also strong in doubles play. Bear and Love and junior Connor Eichenauer(North Manchester, Ind.) each claimed 8-2 finishes at number three and two. Barrett and Love’s decision marked their team-leading seventh of the season.
MU joins the remaining first six programs on the 2018 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference programs for the league postseason tournament Friday through Sunday, May 4-6, at West Indy Racquet Club in Indianapolis, Ind.
