The Manchester Lady Squires played host the Lady Knights of Southwood Wednesday, scoring 3 runs in the sixth to defeat Southwood 6-3.
Manchester would grab a 2-0 lead in the first. Emma West would lead off with a single and was followed by an Allie Sites walk. Both runners would advance a base on a passed ball with West scoring on the throw. Mackenzie Day would follow being hit by a pitch before a Kiera Stacy ground out chased home Sites to lead 2-0.
The Squires would plate another run in the third. Torina Runkel would lead off with a walk and was followed by a Mattie McKee single. Kahn would then be hit by a pitch to load the bases with no outs before Runkel was thrown out at home. West would then reach on an error with McKee scoring before Knight shortstop Kassity Simpson scooped up a grounder, tagging the runner going to third then fired a shot to first for a double play to get out of the inning.
The Knights would get on the board in the fourth. With one out Makenna Pace would walk and was followed by a Tabitha Thomas single. With two outs Kayla Mays would double home Pace to make it 3-1.
The sixth inning would tell the story. In the top of the inning Thomas would hit a one out single and was followed by Keagan Simpson double. Mays would then hit a shot that was heading for left center when shortstop Emma West climbed the ladder to pull it down. With two outs Hayley Bland would single down the right field line, scoring both runners to tie the score 3-3. In the bottom of the inning Runkel would hit a one out single. With two outs Kahn and West would single to load the bases when Sites reached on a throwing error that cleared the base for a 6-3 lead.
Manchester pitcher Mattie McKee would force three ground outs in the seventh to end the game.
