The Wabash Apaches dug a deep hole then fell just short trying to climb out, falling to Elwood 10-7 Friday.
With some timely hitting and aided by Wabash errors Elwood would score 2 runs in the first, 3 runs in the second and 3 runs in the third for an 8-0 lead before the Apaches were able to get on the board. In the bottom of the third Jared Holley would lead off with a single and was followed by a Trenton Daughtry double. Kallen Kelsheimer would then be hit by a pitch to load the bases with no outs before a Robert Irgang grounder scored Holley and Daughtry. Elwood pitching would then get a strike out and a fly out to get out of the inning leading the Apaches 8-2.
Jared Holley and Reece Samons would take control on the mound, holding the Panthers at bay until the Apaches found another rally in the sixth. Trevor Pelphrey would single and was followed by a Samons single. Holley would follow drawing a walk to load the bases when Daughtry hit a sac fly that scored pinch runner Jasper Walter to make it 8-3. Kelsheimer would then rip a triple to right, chasing home Samons and Holley to close the gap to 8-5. After Kelsheimer scored on an error to make it 8-6 Irgang would be hit by a pitch. Clayton Floor would follow with a walk before a Blake Gribben single to shallow center loaded the bases again. Kory Fuller would follow with a long fly ball to left, scoring Irgang to make it 8-7 before a strike out ended the inning.
Elwood would bounce back to score 2 runs in the seventh and hold the Apaches in the bottom of the inning for the 10-7 final.
