Lady Knights Go 500 In Own Invite

The Southwood Invitational became a 3 team event with Lewis Cass dropping out.

In the first match of the day, Southwood took on the Knights of Bishop Luers….and the Knights won! Too bad it was the wrong Knights. The Luers Knights won 4-1. Ssouthwood’s lone point came at #1 doubles as Emily Gwillim and new partner Haleigh Snyder won impressively 6-1, 7-5. Allison Steele lost a very close 3 set match at #3 singles. Luers won the other 3 spots in straight set over Lorynn Hunt at #2 singles, Makenna Norman/Courtney Andrick at #2 doubles. At #1 singles, Drue Gentry faced one of the top 2 or 3 Juniors in the state in the undefeated Caroline Rahrig.

In the second match of the day, Luers defeated Maconaquah 5-0.

In the third match of the day, Southwood faced Maconaquah in a rematch of Thursday’s match. This time Southwood won 3-2. Drue Gentry played well and got revenge on Betsy Powell as Drue won 6-2-6-3. Loryn Hunt lost again to Makenna Moore 1-6,0-6. Allison Steele lost 4-6,2-6 to Cindy Cornelius. In doubles action, Emily Gwillim/Haleigh Snyder won 6-2,6-1 over Trysta Gustafson/Chloe Herschberger. And Courtney Andrick/Makenna Norman of Southwood beat Monica Moore/Melynda Smith 6-0,6-4.

The Knights return to hard court action Monday night at Rochester. The Knights are now 5-9 on the season.
