The Manchester Lady Squires and the Northfield Lady Norse played a marathon Monday with the Lady Squires building an early 8-2 lead before hanging on for an 11-10 win.
Northfield would grab a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. With runners on first and second after two walks Addi Baker would load the bases with a single before an Abby Hunter ground out made it 1-0. Kenzie Baer would follow with a single as the Norse led 2-0. The Squires would answer in a big way in the bottom of the inning with 6 runs. Emma West led off with a single and scored on a Mackenzie day double. A Carsyn Howard single would tie the game before a Torina Runkel double cleared the bases to give Manchester a 5-2 lead. A Mattie McKee grounder would score Runkel to lead 6-2.
The Squires would add to their lead in the second when Mackenzie Day hit a shot over the left field fence for a 2 run home run and an 8-2 lead.
Northfield would close the deficit in the third. With runners on second and third after a n Abby Hunter single, Baer would single home Ally Keaffaber to make it 8-3. Emma Hoover would follow with a single that drove home Hunter and Baer for an 8-5 score. Back came the Squires in the bottom of the inning. With runners on first and third after a Lydia Greer single Allie Sites would single home Mckee to make it 9-5. Kiera Stacy would hit into a fielders choice that scored Greer before a Howard single frove home Sites to lead 11-5.
The Norse would pick up one run in the fourth. A Hunter single and two walks would load the bases with no outs before Hunt scored on an error. Keaffaber would then be thrown out trying to steal third before Hunter grounded out. A pop up would end the threat.
The Norse would get to within one in the fifth with a two out rally. With two outs Madison Shrider would single before Kendall reached on an error. Hunt would then reach on an error with Shrider racing home to make it 11-7. Ally Keaffaber would then hit a shot over the center field fence for a three run home run as the Squires lead was cut to 11-10.
The Squires would threaten in the sixth, getting singled from Greer and West before Norse pitcher Abby Hunter worked her way out of the jam. Torina Runkel would silence the Norse bats in the seventh as the Squires held on for the 11-10 win.
