Manchester tennis traveled to Tippecanoe Valley on a beautiful spring night to take on the Lady Vikings. Manchester played well at all positions showcasing team depth in both singles and doubles. Kelsey Eichenauer dominated at one singles only dropping one game near the end of the match. “Kelsey’s really been working hard to improve the little parts of her game. I look forward to her peaking here at the end of our state tournament run.” The two doubles team featuring senior Lauren Metzger and Anna Osborne earned the next Lady Squire point with the exact 6-0, 6-1 score as Eichenauer. “Anna stepped up from JV to provide just the right shots to compliment her veteran partner. Their all around play really led to an easy victory.” The third team point came off the racket of Rebekah Pyle who moved from two doubles to fill the singles spot. After a strong start and up 4-0, Pyle lost three games before gaining momentum in a run of 8 straight games winning 6-3,6-0. “Rebekah’s strokes really stood out as the match progressed. She’s a smart player who took control of points early and often.” The doubles duo of Kendra Auler and Eva Bazzoni needed a few games to settle in. After a 3-2 lead, they allowed no more games to finish on a 9 game streak winning a 6-2,6-0 match. “Auler and Bazzoni are athletic, and quick thinkers. They showed determinationto close out this match in convincing fashion.” Finally, Halle Briner notched the final Manchester point for the 5-0 team win with a 6-2,6-0 win just like her doubles teammates. And similarly, Briner won the final 9 games to seal the contest. “Halle had a consistent, gritty opponent who made her really win the points. I saw growth in her focus and determination.” Manchester is now 5-0 in Three Rivers Conference Play and 7-4 on the season. The JV also won each of its six matches to go 9-2 overall and 5-0 in TRC play. Alexa Donathan and Morgan Stroud each gave up zero games in strong 8-0 singles victories.
