Northfield hosted Rochester Thursday afternoon in what was probably the best JV Baseball game of the season. Both teams had great at-bats, amazing defense, and stellar pitching. The Norsemen would grab the lead in the third inning. Dakota France would stroke a lead off double to right-center field and eventually score on a very unfortunate balk. In the fifth inning, Levi Fulkerson would draw a two out walk and score on a Graydon Holmes triple to pad the lead at 2-0. In the top of the sixth, Michael Fisher would preserve the lead by spearing a hot line drive and flipping a throw to Cameron Johnson for a double play. Jarret Shafer and Joseph Webb would combine pitching duties for the Norse. Shafer, on a strict pitch count, would scatter 4 hits in his 4.2 innings. Shafer would strike out four throwing 49 of his 62 pitches for strikes. Joseph Webb would preserve the lead by striking out three in his 2.1 innings of relief. Webb would also benefit from a great diving catch by Fulkerson in right and would end the game with a strikeout as Northfield held on for the 2-0 win. The Norsemen will host Bluffton Monday at 5 pm.
